What is a BICKNELL HOME?

A “BICKNELL HOME” is much more than a well built house. A “BICKNELL HOME” is built with superior products, processes and finishes but it also is special because of our team of people. From the owner’s of Bicknell on down through the ranks to the very laborers who keep the homes clean during the construction process, you will only find individuals who really care.

From the sales meetings at the very beginning of your home buying experience, all through the construction process and even after you have moved into your new BICKNELL HOME we do everything possible to ensure that your home buying experience is as good as it can be. Of course this is much easier for us to accomplish since we use top quality products, processes and finishes. From the ground up BICKNELL HOMES truly do stand apart from all others.

  • Ability to customize drawings in order to build your perfect home.
  • All concrete foundation walls are 8” thick.
  • We install 2 each drain systems, one for ground water one for the gutter system.
  • We use engineered floor systems, for flatter, stronger, quieter floors.
  • We only use 1 1/8” tongue and groove flooring instead of the standard ¾”.
  • In floor heating. If you haven’t ever had this heating in a home before, you are going to love the uniformity, the comfort and the efficiency. You will never want to own a home without it again.
  • Insulated argon gas filled vinyl windows. Grid patterns are between the panes of glass so windows are just as easy to clean as windows without.
  • Exceptional exterior waterproofing details at windows, doors and decks. Our experts have years of remodeling experience and these are the areas where standard construction practices fail. We have recognized these failures on other buildings and have developed fail safe procedures for our homes.
  • Almost all of our houses have Vinyl Siding on them. We are strong proponents of Vinyl Siding because of the more obvious reasons such as great look, ease of maintenance, flexible installation, but also because of one other less obvious fact. Vinyl Siding has an air space behind it that allows for drying to occur. In our maritime climate this is a huge advantage, in fact, so much of an advantage, that whenever we install other types of siding such as cedar bevel or Hardi-Plank we imitate this air space by placing furring behind the siding.
  • Exterior doors by Codel. Roofing is a 30 year Architectural composition shingle.
  • We go the extra mile in insulating and air tightening our houses. Each house receives a Five Star Energy Rating. Many of our houses have R-60 in the attic space.
  • Our interior finishes starts off with a special paint sequence that ensures a quality textured and painted wall.
  • Huntwood Custom Cabinets are used exclusively in our homes.
  • Hemlock natural wood trim is used as wall base, door casing and as solid wood window sills.
  • Interior doors are solid core flush panel natural Birch veneer or a Painted MDF solid door. Door upgrades to 6-panel hemlock panels are available to those clients that love the beauty and warmth of these doors.
  • Carpet Connection, a local Juneau flooring supplier, supplies us with all of our flooring needs. Each client will set up an appointment to pick out their personal color scheme to include cabinet color, countertop color, as well as all floors. The flooring allowance given is generous and we use top of the line accessories, such as 10 pound carpet pad.
  • BICKNELL HOMES can come with a variety of countertop materials such as Formica, Corian or granite. We are certified Swanstone countertop fabricators and highly recommend this versatile and elegant hard surface material.
